The Next Chapter for Facebook and Data Privacy

After the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook is trying to move forward. The data breach involved the information of more than 80 million Facebook users being improperly shared with a political consulting firm, Cambridge Analytica. But after the scandal, news stories and testifying before Congress, Facebook is looking to the future.

First, Mark Zuckerberg has announced a new tool which gives Facebook users more control over data and privacy. The tool, Clear History, will allow people to delete stored information about other websites they visit. This will be similar to deleting cookies from your browser.

Moving forward, Facebook has also announced more new apps and tools, at least some of which will probably collect user data. As these new technologies arise, privacy and data risks similar to the Cambridge Analytica data breach are still out there. As Facebook tries to move past Cambridge Analytica, they will have to focus on mitigating future privacy issues.

However, individual users must also be vigilant. It’s important to be aware of what, how and where you share information online.

Our team is constantly watching the changes in the voice and data industry. We want your business to have services which streamline your workflow, but also provide safety and security. At InfoStructure, we are committed to our customers and ready to partner to provide the best voice and data solutions.

Technology Is Reaching Into Space

It seems there is no limit to where technology can reach. And while space is known as the final frontier, for technology, it’s simply the next step.

There has been a lot of news surrounding technology lately, such as rolling back Net Neutrality rules and the Facebook Cambridge Analytica data breach. But amidst some of the negative stories, there is a light. And it’s shining toward the moon.

Vodafone is collaborating with Nokia to launch a 4G network on the moon. Along with a group of Berlin-based scientists, the goal is to test and establish the first parts of a dedicated communications network on the moon. This will help push us beyond the boundaries of Earth and develop infrastructures beyond our own planet.

One of the first steps is for Nokia to build equipment that is capable of surviving in space. It must be sturdy, compact and light.

This partnership could change the landscape of mobile network infrastructure. It will be exciting to watch the progress of this project and see where the innovation of our industry can take us.

Navigating Voice And Data Through Strong Partnerships

Once again, technology is in the news. The scandal surrounding Facebook and the Cambridge Analytica data breach has been a hot topic, with Mark Zuckerberg testifying before Congress. In a time where the Internet is integral to running our businesses, and where we spend a lot of our personal time, privacy is a major concern. It was a jolt for nearly 87 million Facebook users to learn their data was not safe, and improperly shared without their knowledge or consent.

Technology is constantly changing, with new innovations, tools and risks coming to light all the time. These changes also touch the voice and data industry, and the services InfoStructure offers. Amid these changes, InfoStructure is dedicated to providing you safe, secure solutions that streamline your daily business operations.

Our team doesn’t want you to worry about your voice and data solutions. We are always working to stay current about the trends in our industry, and how they could potentially affect your business.

Whatever your business needs, we offer several options, and we are happy to discuss our services with you in more detail.

Is Privacy Changing In The Digital Age?

The story surrounding Facebook and the Cambridge Analytica data breach has been all over the news recently. It has put a spotlight on how our most private data and information is being shared. We know what we put out for the public to view, but how is data concerning our age, our likes, dislikes and other demographics being handled?

This conversation started because Cambridge Analytica, a political analysis company based in the U.K., was discovered to have improperly accessed the data of Facebook users who downloaded the app “This Is Your Digital Life.” According to Facebook, 87 million people were believed to have been impacted by the improper sharing of data.

Since the Cambridge Analytica scandal has come to light, Facebook has released tools to help you learn if your data was shared without your knowledge. There was either an alert in your News Feed, or you can check through Facebook’s Help Center.

Millions of people use Facebook for personal or business applications. While the long term effects of the Cambridge Analytica data breach have yet to be seen, it has brought the issue of privacy to the forefront of people’s minds. People are now more aware of what, where and how they share their information online.

The old saying that “The only constant is change,” applies to many things, but it is especially true in the voice and data industry.

High Speed Internet Connects Your Business

How many times have you sat at your desk, turned on your computer, clicked the internet icon and waited for the page to load? You take a sip of coffee as you wait. A few seconds pass. Then 30 seconds. Then a minute. The page remains blank while that annoying loading circle endlessly revolves.

Sound familiar? If so, then you’re being held hostage by a slow, unreliable internet connection and lack of bandwidth.

High speed internet and increased bandwidth are crucial to a business’ regular operations. Even daily tasks, such as sending and receiving email, are requiring more bandwidth. Today, most emails contain at least one photo or logo, which uses more bandwidth. It’s the same with videos, which are becoming more prevalent. Trying to stream music or instructional videos, all while answering emails with photos attached, will eat up your available bandwidth in a heartbeat.

Fortunately, InfoStructure has options which allow you to get more bandwidth and reliable service from your internet. We have several choices for your business, including:

● Ethernet Over Copper
● Fiber Optics
● DSL
● Ashland Fiber Network

And more!

The internet has evolved since its inception, but at its foundation, has always been about connection. High speed internet is an important part of your daily operations, and an unreliable internet connection is detrimental to your business.

Our team is happy to speak with you about each of our high speed internet options, and see which one will work best with your current needs and future goals.

Reliable Communication For Your Business

You make and receive numerous business calls everyday. A reliable phone system is a necessity because you don’t want phones which break down or drop calls. Hosted PBX phone systems are an intuitive tool for small and medium-sized businesses that will make your daily operations more efficient.

Hosted PBX phone systems are easy to use, less expensive than a typical phone system and eliminate costly maintenance fees. It is a Cloud-based platform that integrates your desktop phone with your computer, and provides your business with a variety of voice applications.

Hosted PBX is great for many types of businesses, and handles disaster recovery with ease. It is geo-redundant with replicated servers in two data centers, so the application can switch from one site to the other, should there be a catastrophic failure in one area. This gives everyone in your office peace of mind in case a disaster happens.

Additionally, the voice applications are housed in the Cloud, so you don’t need to purchase a system, cards, server or software. Data about your business, customers and employees stays safe, but is still easily accessible to those in your organization with the right permissions.

Communication is a necessary part of every successful business, and you need a phone system you can trust. A business cannot rely solely on a cell phone to make and receive important calls. Having a professional phone system in place ensures your company doesn’t miss out on potential opportunities.

But with so many choices available, it’s important to find the right one for your organization. If you have questions, concerns, or want to know the truth behind what makes a good phone system, reach out to the experts at InfoStructure. Our friendly team loves to talk about voice services, and we’ll advise you on the best options. Communication is our business!

The Net Neutrality Debate

The future of the internet has been a popular topic in the news recently, and the discussion has centered around Net Neutrality. The original regulations were put in place during the Obama administration. However, in December 2017, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reversed Net Neutrality.

The previous regulations prohibited broadband providers from blocking websites or charging more money for higher-quality service or specific content. Additionally, the federal government will no longer regulate high-speed internet delivery as if it were a utility.

The reversal of these policies sparked a heated discussion about the future of the internet, and the potential effects on companies, new start-ups and regular users.

So what does this mean for you and your business?

It will take time for the repeal to go into effect, so businesses and consumers will not see any immediate changes. The FCC states the repeal will help consumers, promote market competition and give broadband providers more incentive to offer consumers a wider variety of services.

Critics of the repeal believe it will eventually be harder for consumers to access certain online content, and that start-ups will have to pay more in order to reach their customers. This could result in small businesses losing out on potential customers and income.

Additionally, since the reversal, more than 20 states are suing the FCC over its decision. This could mark the beginning of an intense legal battle over the future of the internet.

At this time, it’s unclear what may change for internet users, but what is clear is that InfoStructure intends to remain net neutral and allow all customers access to all content and applications regardless of the source.

Tips for Choosing a Hosted PBX System

Consider Total Cost

hosted-pbxOn-premise telephone systems typically require a large upfront investment, while hosted systems are paid for with more affordable, monthly payments. Buyers should consider the total cost of ownership of these systems in addition to the initial capital necessary to purchase a new phone network.

The Value of Specific vs. Bundled Functionality

Today, the technical capabilities of hosted and on-premise PBX systems are largely equal. One difference, however, is how these features are bundled. Hosted PBX providers commonly bundle features and charge a set per-user price. On-premise PBX, on the other hand, often provides buyers greater flexibility on the features and functionality they want to pay for (particularly, offering more customization for specific users).

Ease of Customization

Customization is often attainable with on-premise systems, as an on-staff IT professional commonly oversees the system’s deployment and management. With hosted systems, customization is often handled by the provider. While vendors may offer some customization, they are often unable to make extreme customizations for every customer. If your system requires advanced customization, on-premise PBX may be a more reasonable option. If choosing a hosted option, work with a vendor to discuss the exact customizations you need and what they can offer.

True Costs of Tech Support

If you currently don’t have an IT team, then hosted PBX can potentially save your company from having to hire technical staff members. However, you should also consider how relying on third-party support works with your company’s current strategies. If your telephone system is critical to your business, you should be very comfortable with your vendor that will be responsible for system support.
